Yea the top out spring is in the bottom half of the sanction but the metal rod is in the lower leg. You only need to take the air side apart not the rebound side.

Nope didn't touch the spring as it was in the wrong side of the leg to which you lower. I found the forks nice and soft, it's the air the makes them stiff or not.

The bars I used were DMR Open Wingbars - they had a taper so the outside of the bar was narrow but got thicker closed to the middle.
